Barcelona coach Xavi opened up on Ousmane Dembele‘s contract situation to the squad last season.
The docuseries ‘FC Barcelona, a new era’ brings to light the ins and outs of the last two years at the Catalan club, a turbulent period with many controversies, both in the offices and on the pitch.
One of the topics covered in the documentary series is the renewal of Dembélé and how Xavi managed it with the squad.
In a clip, Xavi is seen being very clear with the team regarding the situation of the French forward when he was dropped in January as renewal talks stalled (he eventually renewed in the summer).
“We are a family and you should know everything,” Xavi told the players bluntly. “The club thinks that the representatives are taking the mick. Either he renews, or he looks for a way out.”
In the end, the French player renewed with Barcelona and before his first training session after that news, he made a joke in the dressing room by offering to be captain.
