El Larguero’s Manu Carreno has detailed the reasons behind Barcelona defender Gerard Pique‘s retirement.
Pique announced his retirement on Thursday evening.
Carreno said on Cadena SER that Pique felt promises about playing regularly made by Xavi have been broken.
This season, in 18 games he has only played nine. In the big games like against Bayern Munich or the Clásico, Pique did not play a minute.
Carreno also said: “The criticism inside and outside the club always points to the sacred cows and especially to Piqué.
“Now they will be happy because they have achieved something they wanted. Barça had one goal this year: win titles, play well with Xavi… and Piqué would leave!!! Congratulations!! We’ll see if they achieve the rest of the objectives. They have already achieved Piqué’s departure…”
