Frenkie de Jong insists he has no regrets leaving Barcelona over the summer.
Chelsea, and especially Manchester United under his former Ajax coach, Erik ten Hag, were keen to tempt him away.
“I was calm. I decided in May that I wanted to stay. My opinion has never changed during this whole period. I remained calm. But then you know the pressure is going to start coming… Yes, from the newspapers, from the president (Joan Laporta), exactly. From all sides in fact. But I wanted to stay at Barça so it never disconcerted me,” he told Ziggo Sport.
He was, however, warned by coach Xavi that he would play less this season.
“Yeah, we didn’t talk much, but we just talked about football. I knew I would play fewer minutes at the start of the season. I have to make sure to start over. Against Bayern Munich, I didn’t start. I have to make sure that I start the match against Real Madrid. Maybe he (Xavi) has already decided, but usually we don’t find out until the day of the game.”
