Lucas Vazquez says Real Madrid players see victory at Shakhtar Donetsk tonight as a must.
Vazquez admits they want to wrap up qualification from their Champions League group as soon as possible.
He said, “It’s a very significant step for us. If we manage to win tomorrow, we’ll have virtually assured our qualification. That’s no mean feat, but we’re doing very well and are very pleased with how the season has gone so far.
“We just focus on ourselves. We know that if we win tomorrow, we’ll have qualified and that’s all we’re worried about. It’s a major achievement to have secured our qualification with two matchdays remaining.”
Asked about his right-back role, Vazquez continued: “Yes, at this moment in time, I consider myself to be a right-back. It’s a position that I’ve adapted to really well and I feel really comfortable there in every match and training session. I’m enjoying playing my football in that position.”
On the weekend’s El Clásico against Barcelona, he added: “It’s inevitable that people talk about it. We’ve all got one eye on what’s a very important game in the shape of El Clásico, but we’re focusing on tomorrow’s match because it would be a very significant step in terms of progressing to the next stage of the Champions League.”
