Barcelona coach Xavi adds superkid Victor Barbera to senior training

Barcelona coach Xavi has had teenage striker Victor Barbera train with his senior squad.

The 18 year-old is currently the UEFA Youth League’s (UYL) leading scorer with six goals, including a hat-trick against Bayern Munich.

He is also being gradually introduced to senior football by Barca Atletic coach Rafa Marquez and scored against Atlético Baleares recently.

Marquez said, “He will be in youth dynamics. He has qualities but he lacks some development. We are in a physically strong league.

“The level of the youth team is different from that of our category, but I am trying to give him as many minutes as possible so that he can make a difference. I think we have a good internal competition between him and Robert (Fernandez), who are the only two centre-forwards we have.”

UYL coach Oscar Lopez also said: “He is a player who contributes a lot, he knows how to play short and deep, and he raises the level of the other players.”

As such, Barbera took part in senior training this week.
