PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has taken aim at Barcelona and their financial management.
Al-Khelaifi, also the ECA (European Clubs Association) president, has hit out at Barcelona over their summer spending.
“The new FFP rules are a positive advance,” he said. “Rules control costs. They create investment and new investors. They will help to keep football sustainable. But we have to be careful, dangerous levels of debt and injecting capital as if by magic is not a sustainable path. We have to think long term, not short term.
“The ECA have worked closely with UEFA on a new format for the Champions League from 2024. There will be more exciting games. Competitions will be more inclusive. Our income will grow. We have seen that in France and the United Kingdom.
“And in the US, our growth will be over 150 per cent, with the sale of rights in Spanish. We are planning on working with Paramount+ and all our other partners and rights holders about how to reach new audiences, be innovative and maintain relevance.”
