Azpilicueta, Alonso left in limbo over Chelsea futures

Chelsea veterans Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are not sure about whether they will be at the club next season.

Azpilicueta is out of contract, although Chelsea have a one-year extension clause they can trigger.

Alonso has one year remaining on his deal, but would prefer a return to Spain.

Both are targets for Barcelona, per the Evening Standard.

However, the club’s imminent takeover and sanctions mean that nothing can be done until the takeover is complete.

“It’s a bit strange,” said manager Thomas Tuchel after their last Premier League game of the season.

“If we are able to sell, do we want to sell, do we have a chance to get alternatives?

“So the situation is not only strange for us as those responsible for the rebuild and transfers, but also for the players.”
