Barcelona coach Xavi could start Riqui Puig against Celta Vigo on Tuesday.
If he does indeed get the nod, it will be Puig’s third start of the season and his first since January in the Copa del Rey against Linares.
Last season, Puig played in 28 games across all competitions, but only started seven times. In total, playing 798 minutes and bagging one goal.
This year, his presence has been felt even less, with involvement in 15 games and only two games started. Both came away from home, against Mallorca and Linares.
The midfielder could be playing for his future, too, given that his contract expires in 2023, meaning that the club might not be so open to loaning him out anymore.
Unless Puig can convince Xavi in what little is left of the season that he is worth giving a new contract, Barcelona may look to move on the young midfielder in the summer window.
