Manchester City have been encouraged in their long-term interest in Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez.
Marca says the rapid progression of Nico hasn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of Europe, with five major clubs showing interest in the Spaniard.
Three of the teams are from the Premier League, with the other two clubs from Serie A and the Bundesliga.
Premier League leaders Manchester City are have followed Nico’s career closely, and have a past relationship with his family as his father, Fran Gonzalez used to work at the club.
Nico’s priority is to remain at Barcelona as he feels comfortable and happy at the club. But, Barcelona‘s financial problems mean it won’t be easy for them to compete against other clubs in the market.
Barcelona are in a transitional phase and the hope is they will soon be a force again in the near future. They have been very busy in recent transfer markets, and this will continue over the next 12 months, so players who join the team may be put ahead of Nico in the midfield pecking order.
Nico won’t want his career progression to slow down, so how much confidence and belief Barcelona have in the youngster could be decisive.
