Barcelona had a deal for former Porto attacker Luis Diaz before his move to Liverpool, it has been revealed.
Tottenham and Roma were also interested in the attacker, who joined the Reds for 37 million euros from Porto, which could rise to 50 million euros with bonuses.
El Pais report that Barcelona had been tracking Diaz for months and wanted to bring him in alongside Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The reports suggest that the failure to sell Ousmane Dembele meant that Barcelona could not commit to the transfer, with Diaz instead moving to Anfield.
“In this transfer window another attacker could have come to Camp Nou, but Dembele’s rejection of an exit before his contract ending ruined the club’s plans,” a source told El Pais.
“They had reached an agreement to sign Luis Diaz, the Porto winger who joined Liverpool.”
Diaz instead moved to Merseyside, where he made his debut in the FA Cup against Cardiff City on Sunday.
