PSG star Lionel Messi has sympathy for Ronald Koeman after his sacking by Barcelona.
Messi played for Koeman last season as they won the Copa del Rey together.
He told Marca: “It is always unfair with the coaches. It was unfair with Koeman, with (Ernesto) Valverde … When there are bad results the easiest thing is to target the coach, change him and not the players.
“Koeman arrived at a very difficult time at the club in which important players left, but he was able to promote many young players. As I told you, the easiest thing is always to blame the coach. And they also know this because it is their profession.”
Messi admits he’s in regular contact with new Barca coach Xavi.
He continued: “I speak often with Xavi. We have always been friends, we have shared many things and since he left we have kept in touch. I don’t remember what I told him in the message, I congratulated him on this new step and I wished him the best. I’m sure he will do very well because he knows a lot, he is a hard worker and knows the house well.”
