Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde has admitted some nerves ahead of their clash at Barcelona tomorrow.
The Uruguay international started on the bench in Real Madrid‘s 5-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday, but he is expected to be in the starting line-up at the Camp Nou to face Barcelona.
“I’m a bit nervous, but also excited and really proud to be able to play in these types of games,” Valverde told Real Madrid TV.
“We [the Real Madrid players] are highly motivated to win this game. We have to be united, I think that’s crucial. Whoever plays, whether it’s from the start or later on, has to be ready for the demands of the coaching staff.
“That’s essential for everyone. Everyone has to chip in with their part here. I think it’s going to be a great season for us if we can do that.”
Asked about the last Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou, Valverde recalled a special moment for him in Los Blancos’ 3-1 victory in Catalonia.
“The first thing I remember is my goal,” added Valverde.
“And of course the victory. It’s also nice when you score and win the game – it’s like a double dose of happiness. Scoring in these types of games is one of the greatest things in football.
“I remember when the game ended I felt really bad because I’d become dizzy during the match. I hadn’t looked at my phone and when I got home I had thousands of messages from members of my family and friends, and that’s really special.
“Teammates who congratulated me on my goal and the win. It was a really special day and it was amazing.”
