Liverpool haven’t lost consecutive league games against Manchester City since a run of four between 1935 and 1937, going down 4-1 the last time the sides met in February.
City have made two changes to their side from their defeat to PSG. Jesus and Foden come into the side to replace Sterling and Mahrez, who drop to the bench this afternoon. Laporte retains his place in the back four ahead of Stones.
Liverpool are unchanged from their win over Porto in the week. Klopp has opted to stick with the same line-up that proved to be successful as Milner continues at right-back in the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Jones retains his place in the middle of the park, while Firmino settles for a place on the bench once more despite scoring twice late in game against the Portuguese outfit.

Manchester City were defeated 2-0 during the week by Paris Saint-Germain in their second Champions League group contest. City came through their first test last week with a fine performance to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but they failed to maintain their momentum as Idrissa Gueye and Lionel Messi condemned them to defeat. A win this afternoon would take City top and send out an important message in the Premier League title race, but Pep Guardiola’s men must be at the peak of their powers.
Liverpool have the chance to move top of the Premier League with a win this afternoon along with pulling four points of City. Jurgen Klopp’s men have enjoyed an excellent start to the term, only dropping four points in their opening six matches. The Reds were frustrated by the resilience of Brentford last time out, who battled back to claim a 3-3 draw. However, Liverpool quickly put that behind them with a dominant win over Porto in the Champions League. Klopp will be seeking a similar performance today.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield.
