LIVE: Cadiz vs Barcelona

F. de Jong

Yellow Card

Barcelona

61′ Frenkie de Jong receives the game’s first yellow card for catching Alarcon in the face.

60′ Carcelen’s effort from outside the box is blocked, handing Cadiz a corner. Barca let the ball stay in their box a little longer than they should but eventually get rid of it.

59′ Lozano gets involved in the game right away, giving away a foul on Araujo. Barca will have to deal with a new presence up front for Cadiz.

A. Lozano

Álvaro Negredo

Cádiz

57′ Negredo also heads off the pitch after getting Cadiz’s best chance so far. The Honduran forward Lozano comes on.

Alberto Perea

S. Arzamendia

Cádiz

57′ Here are those Cadiz changes. Arzamendia goes off first. Perea, a fellow winger, comes on.

56′ Cadiz are preparing a substitution. After keeping Barca quiet in the first half they need to act quickly to stop the visitors from gaining too much control.

54′ The game is opening up now. Arzamendia crashes an effort against a Barca defender from distance.

52′ Chance for Barca! Ledesma stops Depay from finding the bottom left corner, diving low to stop the Dutchman’s drive from range. Barca get a corner which doesn’t lead to much, but it’s progress for the visitors.

50′ Depay fluffs an opportunity to test Ledesma as Roberto rolls a cross towards him at the far post. Barca are growing in influence.

48′ Arzamendia wins a free-kick in his own half as he’s fouled by Mingueza.

46′ Cadiz immediately get a shot on target! Ter Stegen dives to his right to tip aside Negredo’s shot from outside the box. That’s better from the hosts already.

46′ Things have gotten going again here in Cadiz. Let’s see whether those changes affect the game one way or another.

Salvi

Álvaro Jiménez

Cádiz

46′ Cadiz go next as Sanchez replaces Jimenez on their right flank. Jimenez didn’t do much wrong in the first half.

Sergi Roberto

Y. Demir

Barcelona

46′ Both teams make changes at half-time. Barca go first as Roberto comes on to replace the quiet Demir.

Barca have failed to win five of their last eight LaLiga games, as many as they had in their previous 24 matches in the competition. Koeman’s men are hardly setting the world alight here either so far. Barca need to up their game with Cadiz not looking particularly troublesome. The hosts didn’t have a shot in the first half.

The game hasn’t had much to write home about so far. Cadiz haven’t had a chance to speak of but neither have Barca really, with Depay’s shot straight at Ledesma the closest the visitors have come to scoring. We’ll have to see how Cadiz cope with losing Fali after his unfortunate injury late in the half.

45′ + 3′ HALF-TIME: CADIZ 0-0 BARCELONA

45′ + 2′ Barca get one last chance to test Cadiz’s defence in this half as they earn a free-kick. Depay dinks an effort into the box and Ledesma punches it away with Araujo looking to latch onto it. Jonsson drifts offside up the other end of the pitch. That’ll be that for now.

45′ There’ll be three additional minutes in this half due to Fali’s injury earlier.

44′ The offside flag goes up against Demir. Barca haven’t quite clicked yet going forward.

43′ Ter Stegen pushes the corner away from trouble before Cadiz send the ball straight back into the box. Barca deal with it well.

42′ Arzamendia bravely uses his head to win an aerial ball from Mingueza and buy a throw-in. The winger’s cross hits a defender and earns Cadiz a corner.

J. Jønsson

Fali Jiménez

Cádiz

40′ The Danish midfielder Jonsson replaces Fali in Cadiz’s engine room.

39′ The Cadiz fans chant their appreciation for Fali who has his head in his hands as he’s carried off on a stretcher. Let’s hope he isn’t out of action for long.

37′ Fali swings his left foot to make a routine clearance near the centre circle and immediately winces in pain before lying down. The midfielder looks in real discomfort. It seems unlikely he’ll be able to continue.

35′ Dest outmuscles Jimenez to stop the winger from beating him down the right. The home crowd are unhappy. They’re soon even more so as Busquets wins a foul off Sobrino in the centre of the pitch.

33′ Arzamendia holds the ball up near Barca’s corner flag until Araujo forces him to concede a throw-in. Sobrino catches Ter Stegen as he clears from the back.

31′ Barca get a corner down their left. Depay’s delivery bounces harmlessly out of play for a goal-kick.

30′ Mingueza miscontrols a pass and hands Cadiz a throw-in that they use to get upfield. The attack comes to nothing though and Fali fouls Luuk de Jong. Barca take the free-kick quickly and Ledesma catches Depay’s dipping shot.

28′ Barca change tack slightly as Ledesma punches away Dest’s cross. The visitors eventually win a corner off Espino that Cadiz clear.

27′ Barca have had 76 per cent possession so far. The problem is that none of it has really given Cadiz cause for concern.

25′ Jimenez wins possession for Cadiz in his own half but can’t do very much with it. Barca force a corner off Carcelen which they take short. Ledesma catches the whipped ball in.

23′ Busquets plays a direct pass from the base of midfield that bounces straight through to Ledesma in the Cadiz goal. Koeman gets to his feet to give his team some encouragement.

21′ Not a whole lot is going on. Neither team is having much luck in creating a shooting opportunity.

19′ Barca are finding Cadiz difficult to break down at the moment. The hosts look well-organised when they don’t have the ball.

17′ Negredo loses an aerial challenge near the halfway line and hits the turf in an awkward manner. Play’s stopped while he is helped to his feet.

15′ Jimenez tries to find Negredo with a cross but is unsuccessful. The Cadiz striker appreciates the effort all the same. Up the other end, Frenkie de Jong trips Jimenez as he wins a 50/50 ball.

13′ Jimenez holds up Dest’s run, unfairly in the view of the American but the referee disagrees.

11′ Cadiz deal with the set-piece easily enough. The hosts certainly have nothing to be scared of so far.

10′ Arzamendia races through Barca’s midfield to surprisingly little resistance until the visitors’ defence eventually shuts the door. Alarcon trips Frenkie de Jong to give Depay the chance to swing a cross in.

8′ Barca earn their first corner of the game. Cadiz clear it after blocking Pique’s header and Espino tries to counter down the left. Dest comes across to cut the attack out.

6′ Barca unconvincingly deal with the ball that Cadiz swing in. Luckily for the visitors Arzamendia steams into Gavi on the edge of the box and ends up giving away a free-kick.

5′ Jimenez looks to power down the right but finds his path blocked off by Busquets. The referee awards a foul against the Barca captain.

3′ Barca enjoy their first shot of the game as Dest teases Carcelen before firing over from the left of the box.

1′ We’re underway here in Andalusia!

The two teams are out on the pitch in Cadiz. Cadiz are wearing their yellow and blue home strip. Barca are wearing their light purple away kit. It’s very smart.

This could be a tough game for Barca who’ve failed to win their last two visits to Cadiz, losing their last league visit 2-1 last December. However, Cadiz are winless in their last four LaLiga matches at home. The hosts will want to make their strength at set-pieces count: four of their five league goals this season have come that way. It’s also how Barca have conceded three of their last four goals.

Cadiz make three changes from their win over Celta Vigo. Arzamendia, Sanchez and Negredo come in for Bastida, Sanchez, and Lozano. Koeman makes four changes to Barca’s side from three days ago. Mingueza, Pique, Gavi and Luuk de Jong start.

SUBS: Inaki Pena, Clement Lenglet, Eric Garcia, Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti, Riqui Puig, Sergi Roberto, Nicolas Gonzalez, Neto.

Barcelona were lucky to salvage a 1-1 draw at home to Granada earlier this week, despite dominating possession. Ronald Koeman will need his team to put in a better performance this time around if they are to silence the doubters and catch up to the leading pack.

After a slow start, Cadiz finally got their first win of this LaLiga campaign last time out with a 2-1 away victory over Celta Vigo. Alvaro Cervera’s Andalusians haven’t fully convinced yet this campaign, but they’ll be hoping they can now look up the table.
