PSG midfielder Gini Wijnaldum admits he left Liverpool convinced they didn’t want to keep him.
Wijnaldum was allowed to come off contract by the Reds this summer before joining PSG.
He recalled to L’Equipe: “Like I said, you follow your feeling. Several months ago, I wanted to stay at Liverpool but, without going into details, Liverpool did not give me the feeling of wanting to keep me.
“In these cases, we must move forward. Barcelona have come. I was really happy because, from a very young age, as for the majority of Dutch players, it was the club of my dreams even if I must admit that my idol was Zinédine Zidane, a Real Madrid player. I really had a good feeling about signing up with Barça.
“But the negotiations lasted a very long time and Paris arrived. Unlike six years earlier, the club showed me its desire to recruit me. It was time for me to see something else.”
