Brylon Petersen: Promising goalkeeper joins Maritzburg United after Kaizer Chiefs exit

The 25-year-old, who has a BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering, has been snapped up by his hometown club

Maritzburg United have announced the signing of Brylon Petersen after he parted ways with Kaizer Chiefs.

The promising goalkeeper was among the seven players, who were released by Amakhosi ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Petersen has now found a new home at Maritzburg and he will be hoping to finally make his debut in the PSL at his new club.

The Team of Choice issued the following statement on Wednesday morning:

“Welcome, Brylon Petersen,” a club statement read.

“The club is delighted to announce the acquisition of Brylon who joins from Kaizer Chiefs on a permanent deal.”

Petersen had two spells with Chiefs and he found game time hard to come by with the first team and he was mostly used in the PSL reserve league, DStv Diski Challenge.

The lanky shot-stopper was signed by Amakhosi in September 2016 after undergoing a successful trial stint at the Naturena-based giants.

Petersen had caught the eye of the Soweto giants’ scouts while playing in the Varsity League for Wits University.

Having failed to break into the team’s starting line-up, Petersen was released by the four-time PSL champions at the end of the 2018/19 season.

However, the Pietermaritzburg-born shot-stopper returned to Chiefs in November 2019 as the club increased competition in their goalkeeping department.

Petersen continued to feature in the DStv Diski Challlenge for Amakhosi with Itumeleng Khune, Daniel Akpeyi and Bruce Bvuma preferred ahead of him in the first team.

The Glamour Boys decided to release him for the second time after the club signed former Bidvest Wits keeper Brandon Petersen.
