Paredes says De Paul eases Argentina pressure on Barcelona star Messi

PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes says the emergence of Rodrigo de Paul has eased the pressure on Argentina teammate Lionel Messi.

Paredes admits Argentina’s players don’t always have to look for Barcelona star Messi thanks to the way Udinese ace De Paul is playing at the Copa America.

He said, “When we had to play several games with Rodri De Paul, we realised that it was not an obligation to look for Leo, but to find him when he could take advantage.

“I think that while his presence leads you to want to give it to him, it is not always the best option. You also have to be smart in that sense.

“You have to make decisions, whether they are good or not. And you think you take the best. Later, if you give him the pass or not and it was better for the team, is another thing. But one tries to take off that ‘responsibility’ of always giving it to him and trying to find it when he can take advantage.”
