Barcelona president Joan Laporta is working with kit sponsors Nike to help convince Lionel Messi to commit to a new deal.
As it stands, Messi will come off contract at the end of the month, just as he is competing for Argentina in the Copa America.
Laporta is eager to secure Messi to new terms – which is likely to be the final contract of his playing career – and has been in talks with Nike about assisting negotiations.
Ok Diario says Laporta is planning to include Nike in his offer to Messi, which would see the Argentine become a ‘personalised brand’ for the American sportswear company, similar to their deals with Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods.
Messi is currently contracted to Adidas, but the deal runs only for his playing career. As such, Laporta and Nike’s plan is to make Messi the ‘personalised brand’ offer once he plays out this final contract being drawn up.
