Former interim president Carles Tusquets says he’s organised four bumper sponsorship options for new Barcelona supremo Joan Laporta.
Tusquets was entrusted with sitting as Barcelona president in-between Josep Maria Bartomeu’s resignation and Laporta’s election victory, and he believes he has left the club with four offers in excess of 200 million euros for sponsorship.
It’s been well documented that Barcelona‘s financial position is perilous, bordering on cataclysmic, although efforts are well underway to ensure the club have a much-improved fiscal footing in the near future.
“I have tried to have advanced negotiations to make things easier for the new president, the four options range from 200 million euros and upwards, depending on variables,” Tusquets told RAC1 and TV3.
“The hardest thing has been finding an empty coffer and having to pay all the club’s expenses every day, without breaking all the agreements that exist. Also getting the players to understand that it was important to postpone part of their salary.”
One of the key aspects of the ‘Barca Corporate’ initiative is to ensure Los Cules have a stream of revenue, whilst not entirely selling the club’s ownership percentage.
“It’s about finding an investment partner who pays for 49 percent of the club’s business,” Tusquets confirmed. “Because it’s better to have 51 percent of something very good and profitable than 100 percent of something much smaller.
“With what our strategic partner pays, there will be funds to finance the four projects (Barcelona‘s academy, Barcelona‘s Innovation Hub, Barcelona Licensing and Merchandising and Barcelona Studios).
“The profit obtained will be kept by the corresponding percentages, whilst the club can use its share of the profit for whatever it wants, signing good players and renewing their contracts when they succeed.”
