The youngster hopes to have a far better successful season in order to be part of the national team in future
Tusker forward Henry Meja has revealed his ambitions in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.
The 19-year-old has managed to stamp his authority on the starting XI for Tusker under coach Robert Matano and he now wants to find the back of the net in as many games as possible and also get a national team call-up.
“My target is to work hard and score goals so that I can play at the national level. I have to work hard before I earn the call up because that is my ultimate dream and target,” Meja was quoted as saying by the club’s Facebook page.
“I also want to win a cup with Tusker and score as many goals as possible so that I can be a top scorer or the best player in the league.
“I am feeling good, I am happy and I have confidence but that is not enough because I want to push even harder and achieve more.”
He also stated why he thinks the former Premier League winners have enjoyed a recent good run, where they have manoeuvred up the ladder and are now second.
“The season has been good on my side and generally for the team because we have been winning. We have been training hard and that is why we have been able to get the results,” he added.
“I have been pushing myself and gladly the coach has seen that, has given me playtime and I have also worked hard whenever I play.”
The forward, who scored against Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz, also explained how his brother Nicholas Meja, who is also playing at Tusker, has helped him grow his career.
“After winning the national title with Kakamega High School in Eldoret and emerging as the top scorer in the Cleophas Malala Cup, I have never looked back even when I signed for Tusker,” Meja concluded.
“Tusker were my dream team when I was in school and the fact that my brother was there he used to tell me how good the team is and that fuelled my ambition even more.
“He bought me boots and gave me the motivation as he also pushed me to train more when at home. He has played a big role in my football journey so far.”
Coach Matano is expected to trust the youngster with a starting position when Tusker battle Mathare United at Kasarani on Sunday.
