A triumphant Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelino hailed his newly-inherited team after last night’s Supercopa de Espana final victory against Barcelona.
Barely a week into his tenure, Marcelino has overseen a semifinal win against Real Madrid and last night’s shock.
He said, “I have been in Bilbao for a short time, but the truth is that it has been productive.
“The credit goes to the players, who last year with their work deserved to be here. And then they won two games to be champions against Real Madrid and Barcelona.
“And then I would also like to remember Aduriz, San José and Beñat, who are players who were here last season, and of course the coaching staff.”
Marcelino also remarked: “We came with all the humility in the world to work taking advantage of what we have done before and we try to instill the concepts that we want to add.
“They are sponges and it is incredible what they fight and work on. They had determination to win this game and we are very proud.
“We enjoy working here because they make it so easy for us.”
