Joan Laporta has called on the Barcelona presidential election to be held as planned on January 24.
There have been calls for the vote to be postponed due to Spain’s lockdown.
But Laporta, who boasts the greatest number of signatures from members endorsing his candidacy, insists the election should go ahead.
He stated, “Barça cannot wait any longer without a president and board. We are missing some golden opportunities for the market.
“We are without the approved accounts for 19-20 and without budgets for this year. We are holding this press conference to make it clear that a postponement of the elections would greatly harm the club.”
Of his 10,272 signatures secured, Laporta also said: “Not voting now is very harmful for the club, we have the winter market, we have to apply the shock plan now.
“The consequences could be irreversible. I am in favor of the elections being held, the management board should not exceed its functions and this could lead to challenges and more instability of the club.
“With this mismanagement, the situation could be irreversible and the club cannot afford it. We have a crash plan to reverse the situation.”
