Former Barcelona youth chief Albert Benaiges has compared Pedri with Andres Iniesta.
Benaiges first discovered Iniesta for Barcelona as a junior player and knows Pedri has been likened to his former protege.
He told Marca: “The first time I saw Pedri was in Brazil with the U-17 team and I thought he was the best of the team. I really liked his style. We have to wait a bit to see how he evolves.
“Putting him in the same age group, Iniesta had a change of pace that Pedri has not yet shown to have. Furthermore, it must be taken into account that Iniesta came to Barcelona as a child and Pedri was already older.
“Those actions that Andrés learned in the Barça, Pedri does not have them because he has not gone through those stages. He has been training for eight years at a club. Now, Pedri is an intelligent player, very important. He is technically very good. He has a very good effort capacity. He is not aggressive, but makes defensive transitions and works. In that he is a lot like Andrés.
“As for Andrés’s technical actions, he was perhaps more complete due to the change of pace he had. Even now he still has it.”
