Barcelona candidate Lluis Fernandez Ala coy over move for Leeds football chief Orta

Barcelona presidential candidate Lluis Fernandez Ala insists his project is a point of difference from his rivals.

Fernandez says his candidacy is a departure from others with past roles inside the club.

He told Marca: “What we like about our candidacy is that we are not continuists, we are independent with new faces. We are a great team, highly trained, with enthusiasm and passion.

“You have to have Barça at 150% of its capacities to reach the level of excellence and with good sense to lead Barça with La Masía, the cornerstone of our project.”

Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta has been linked with Fernandez’s ticket.

But he added: “We neither deny nor confirm. He has a valid contract. He has done a great job, he was by Monchi’s side at Sevilla and now at Leeds. He is a great sports director, but I can’t say anything about that. And the same thing happens with sports secretaries.”
