Man City refused to budge on asking price for Barcelona target Garcia

Manchester City were not willing to sell Eric Garcia to Barcelona for less than their asking price.

It seemed destined that Garcia would leave for his boyhood club after they submitted an offer of £10million plus £8million in add-ons.

But the deal fell through on deadline day after City refused to accept the offer, despite it being only £2m less than their valuation.

Ultimately the Sky Blues had to weigh up whether it was more valuable to sell Garcia or keep him in their squad for the 2020/21 season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The departure of Nicolas Otamendi means Garcia will provide cover at centre-back for Pep Guardiola should injuries occur over the hectic campaign.

Garcia will now see out the final year of his contract with City before joining Barca on a free next summer.
