Ex-Real Madrid GM Valdano: Premier League wouldn’t be good for Messi

Former Real Madrid GM Jorge Valdano is happy Lionel Messi is staying with Barcelona.

Valdano says Messi should choose France over England if he does eventually choose to leave Barca.

“I feared for Messi in another league and for me it’s good news that he’s staying in this league,” said Valdano. “He’s the best player in the world not just for the image he projects but because it’s a pleasure to watch a player of this level.”

And the idea of Messi playing in France?

“I have no idea what will happen through the season. If this will finish with that Messi burofax threat or maybe the two sides can come together during the campaign. It will depend on the new president and the results, which have always marked the way for the big clubs, and the will of Leo who will be 34 next year.

“I don’t know if the Premier League, which is super competitive, will be a good place for him to retire. Paris is more comfortable, more suited to the last years of a career of a genius. He knows how to rest himself during games and will not accept being a substitute.”
