Former Barcelona sports chief Pep Segura seriously considered a move for Luka Jovic before he joined Real Madrid, it has been revealed.
Jovic left Eintracht Frankfurt for Real last summer, though the Serbia striker was also under consideration by Segura and Barca.
Mundo Deportivo says Barca scouts had delivered Segura glowing reports on Jovic.
There was no doubts about the striker’s ability and attitude, however it was felt within Barca that his style of play would not suit former coach Ernesto Valverde’s system.
Barca prefer their strikers being able to combine with the midfield, while Jovic’s strength is more about playing as a target man.
As such, Segura and management decided not to compete with Real for the striker.
