The demise of Philippe Coutinho during his time contracted to Barcelona has been laid bare.
The Liverpool Echo says when signing him from Liverpool, Barca reportedly inserted a £355m release clause into his contract.
Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu told TVE he wouldn’t ever leave for a penny less: “Coutinho is an excellent player and he has the coach’s confidence.
“He has a contract with us and he will remain at the team, unless they [another club] meet his release clause.”
Little over two years later and it’s a rather different story with Barcelona not wanting to keep him and loan side Bayern Munich not willing to take him on permanently either.
Recent reports claim Barcelona would accept bids in the region of £70m – a figure £285m short of his release clause.
