Reported Real Madrid target Camavinga likened to N’Golo Kante and Xabi Alonso

Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has attracted a wave of ratings likening him to some of football’s biggest names, as talks of a possible move to Real Madrid gain momentum.

The France youth international was enjoying a good season with Rennes before Ligue 1 was halted due to the coronavirus outbreak.

With 24 league starts and one substitute appearances as well as a goal, the Angola-born midfielder is already being touted as the next big thing to happen in French football.

This has led to some rave reviews, with former Sevilla and France defender Julian Escude describing the 17-year-old as “mature” while comparing him to Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.

“The level of maturity and calmness that he shows is incredible for his age and even more so as a midfielder,” Escude told Marca.

“[France coach Didier] Deschamps said that Kante makes the difficult things easy, which is the hardest thing. Camavinga is the same.

“He is also smart, quite fast, technically good. He is very interesting. I think a big step is coming for him very soon.”

Escude, however, feels that it would be early for Camavinga to move to Real Madrid.

“Right now, he can go to a big club in France and in three or four years he can jump to a top European side like [Real] Madrid,” Escude said.

As reports linking Camavanga to the Spanish giants continue to swell, ex-Los Blancos midfielder Cristian Benavente has joined the praise for the teenager.

Benavente compares the midfielder’s possessional discipline and passing to the qualities of Madrid and Spain great, Xabi Alonso.

“He has caught my attention a lot,” Benavente told Marca.

“I would emphasise that he is always well-marked when it comes to receiving the ball and moving forward and that, at his age, is very difficult.

“He does not lose the ball in congested areas, he is reliable with short, medium and long passes and, with the ball at his feet, he can break lines with his drives forward. He has an air of Xabi Alonso about him.”

Camavinga made his Ligue 1 debut in April 2019 while aged 16 to become the youngest player to make a maiden appearance in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

With Rennes currently third on the Ligue 1 table, Camavinga could find himself playing Uefa Champions League football next season.
