Chelsea celebrate Mikel’s birthday with historic video

The Premier League giants took a look back at the midfielder’s first goal for the Blues to commemorate his birthday

A birthday is the perfect time to look back on one’s successes and happiest memories – and luckily for John Obi Mikel, his former club Chelsea has picked one out of many to celebrate him.

Mikel clocked 33 years on Wednesday with the Stamford Bridge giants marking the occasion with a video remembering his maiden goal for the club.

The Nigerian who was nearing a seven-year sojourn in West London had never scored in the Premier League in 185 matches –however, he broke the jinx in the 2-0 triumph over Fulham.

He volleyed home a shot from John Terry’s flick off a corner kick.

Among the honours claimed by Mikel during his spell in England include two Premier League crowns, four FA Cup successes and one Champions League.

He scored only six times in 372 appearances for the Blues, earning a cult hero status, before heading to China after failing to make an impression on the first team under Antonio Conte.

In the same vein, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) also shared another significant feat of the ex-Nigeria captain to celebrate him.

This time, it was his maiden Africa Cup of Nations goal against Zimbabwe during the 2006 finals in Egypt.
