Barcelona coach Setien: Sorry Balanta knows he needs to control himself

Barcelona coach Quique Setien admits apologies have been made regarding assistant coach Eder Balanta’s antics during Sunday’s defeat at Real Madrid.

Setien says Balanta was out of order with his remonstrations during the game.

“Of course we’ve talked,” Setien told El Periodico when asked about the fallout from Sarabia’s comments.

“He’s worried, too. We don’t care about the situation. It’s an issue we have to improve ourselves. We are trying to find a solution. And he’s working towards it.

“We’ve already made the apologies we’ve needed to make.

“And especially me because, in the end, it’s my fault.

“I have to control these things.”

Setien admits that the situation with Sarabia has affected him deeply.

“That situation has affected me a lot,” he added.

“It’s a subject that worries me a lot. It’s something that’s very important to me.

“We can be criticised because you make bad substitutions, because you play bad games… For whatever, but not behaviour.”

Although Setien views Sarabia in a good light, he does recognise that there are some facets that he must improve, areas that the assistant is currently working on.

“Eder is a kid with a great temperament, which is great for many things,” Setien noted.

“But he has to learn to control himself.

“He’s working on it; he’s trying to improve this area because we’ve already had situations like this [in the past].

“It’s more and more sporadic, but… But it’s something we don’t like.

“It’s an issue that Eder is trying to solve.

“He’s a young guy, an impulsive guy, who has a lot of energy, which for many things is tremendously positive.

“But we’re on the bench of a club that you represent and your behaviour should be flawless.”
