Chelsea burned off competition from Barcelona to sign Billy Gilmour from Rangers, it has been revealed.
The Independent says Barca watched Gilmour regularly when he was a junior with Rangers, convinced he was the only British prospect who had the type of midfield abilities they work so hard to nurture in their academy.
However, it was Chelsea that nicked in first to tempt the Scot south.
Gilmour became officially contracted to Chelsea in July 2017, following his 16th birthday, for a development fee of £500,000.
