Former Barcelona fullback Juliano Belletti admits he’s excited ahead of tonight’s El Clasico at Real Madrid.
The clash is gearing up to one of the most decisive in El Clasico history – though Belletti insists it won’t affect the players’ preparation.
Ahead of the showdown at the Bernabei, the Brazilian said: “The preparation before a game against Real Madrid was the same as any other game.
“What was different was the atmosphere, the feeling around the game. Mentally we had to be more focused. Winning a game like this was absolutely key for the whole season.”
Belletti, who won two LaLiga titles and the Champions League with Barca, admits the personal duels are always special in an El Clasico – and he loved testing himself against fellow Selecao star Roberto Carlos.
He also said, I loved playing against Real Madrid when they had Roberto Carlos.
“We’re good friends, almost brothers. One of the best friends from my football days. It was different having him in front of me. I’d line up against him, sometimes foul him, maybe try a dribble.
“That’s the beautiful thing about football.
“I think Roberto was the best full-back in history. What he used to do was incredible. Lining up opposite him in a match was wonderful.”
