Alaves attacker Burke becomes first Scot to score in LaLiga since Archibald

Scottish forward Oliver Burke made history on Friday night when he became the first Scotsman to score in LaLiga for over three decades, netting for Deportivo Alaves in their 2-1 victory over SD Eibar.

It marked a landmark moment for Scottish football in the LaLiga for the on-loan West Brom attacker as the records tumbled:

– The last Scottish player to score in LaLiga was Barcelona forward Steve Archibald, who scored a double for Barça against rivals Espanyol in 1987.

– Burke is the first Scottish player to feature in LaLiga since Alan Hutton, who joined RCD Mallorca on loan in the 2013 season.

– Burke is one of three British players competing in LaLiga Santander this season, alongside Atletico Madrid‘s Kieran Trippier and Real Madrid‘s Gareth Bale. Getafe‘s Scottish forward Jack Harper is currently on loan at LaLiga Smartbank side AD Alcorcón and has yet to feature for his parent club in the Spanish top flight.

– Burke currently holds the record as the most expensive Scottish footballer, following his £15 million move from RB Leipzig to West Brom in 2017.

The Scot’s loan with Alaves runs to the end of this season.
