Bruno Fernandes worth a lot more than being suggested – Sporting coach Silas

The Red Devils are once again circling for the attacker but his manager is adamant the figures being thrown around aren’t enough

Sporting head coach Silas said the “extraordinary” Bruno Fernandes is worth a lot more money that what is being reported amid growing links to Manchester United.

Fernandes is reportedly nearing a switch to struggling Premier League giants United, with a fee in the region of €60 million (£51m/$66m) being mooted, though Sporting are believed to be holding out for more.

After confirming Fernandes will face Portuguese rivals Benfica in Friday night’s blockbuster, Silas hailed the Sporting captain.

“He is an extraordinary player, the best and most valuable in the league, as he was last season,” Silas told reporters.

“I’ve heard someone say that he’s not worth the money you are talking about and it’s true, he’s worth a lot more.

“In addition to attacking he also sacrifices himself to defend. Bruno is the best and the most valuable. When we have such a player it’s normal for everyone to want him.”

Fernandes, who was heavily linked to United, Tottenham and Real Madrid during the previous transfer window, has scored 15 goals across all competitions for Sporting this season.

The 25-year-old midfielder netted 31 goals last term, including 20 in Primeira Liga.

The Red Devils have long been linked with a move for Fernandes and the club’s former striker Louis Saha is hopeful a deal will finally be done this month.

“Bruno Fernandes seems to be a leader which is a great addition for a player. He can score goals from midfield which is something that is missing at Manchester United at the moment,” Saha told  Bonus Code Bets

“If he could score 10-15 goals a season like Paul Scholes used to do or when Wayne Rooney did when he played in the deeper role it would be a great help to the team.

“I want to see United buy a player after a well-thought out plan, someone who was not a panic buy. A player who wants to come to the club and play for United, rather than someone who is being made to move. A footballer who the club want and who wants to play for the club.”
