Kariobangi Sharks 1-3 Tusker: Namanda’s brace piles pressure on Muluya
The Brewers fought to a convincing win against the hosts who are struggling to pick positive results after a poor season start
Tusker FC came from a goal down to defeat Kariobangi Sharks 3-1 in an entertaining clash staged at Kasarani on Friday afternoon.
Luke Namanda scored a brace with George Odhiambo getting another one for Tusker while Sharks got their consolation through Kevintom Machika.
Coach William Muluya came into the match desperate for a win to save his job and get the team out of the danger zone.
David Majak, Namanda and Mike Madoya had a half chances to open the scoring for the 11-time league champions but lack of composure cost them.
In the 39th minute, the Brewers won a corner which was beautifully floated in; Humprey Mieno rose highest and connected to the header, only for the defender to make a goalline clearance to deny him.
Moments later, the former FKF Shield champions initiated a counter-attack and James Mazembe, who was cut loose on the left by his marker, forced goalkeeper to a good save. However, the rebound kindly fell on Machika who found the roof of the net with an unstoppable cracker.
Tusker started the second half better with intentions of getting an equalizer early and probably a winner. Despite their efforts, Sharks managed to keep of Sydney Ochieng and Majak at Bay.
Coach Robert Matano introduced striker George Odhiambo in the 57th minute with hopes of getting a goal. However, it was Sharks who got a real chance three minutes later when the dangerous Mazembe managed to pick Duke Abuya who teed Peter Oudu but the latter’s effort was calmly collected by Robert Mboya in Tusker goal.
The first meaningful contribution from Odhiambo came in the 63rd minute when his precise pass was collected by Majak, but Geoffrey Shiveka reacted fastest to clear the danger.
Defensive lapses by the hosts allowed Namanda to cross the ball into the danger zone in search for Majak; the towering striker couldn’t beat the goalkeeper and Odhiambo managed to bounce on the loose ball in the 73rd minute to put the teams in level terms.
Brian Bwire had to be at his best two minutes later to stop the former Gor Mahia striker from completing his brace. The forward turned the defenders inside out before shooting, but the custodian made a one-handed save to keep the scoreline level.
The visitors completed their comeback in the 83rd minute. Sharks failed to clear a corner and Namanda managed to deflect the ball into the net to make it 2-1 in favour of the former champions.
Namanda put the icing on the cake with a cool finish in the 89th minute to ensure the visitors claim maximum points.
