UNCOVERED: Shocked Barcelona players – ‘Liverpool just kept attacking and attacking’

Barcelona‘s stunning Champions League collapse at Liverpool last season has been uncovered.

A documentary put together by club sponsors Rakuten lifts the lid on Barca’s 4-0 semifinal second-leg defeat at Anfield to the eventual European champions.

In the footage, it’s clear the previous season’s collapse to Roma weighed heavily on the players going into the game.

Before kickoff, skipper Lionel Messi is filmed telling teammates: “We are going out there strong. Roma was our fault, nobody else’s. The same will not happen…”

Of course, they didn’t.

Afterwards, Gerard Pique says to camera: “Within the field, in the moments in which it happens it is very difficult. They score the first quick goal and the ghosts of Rome appear to you, I guess.”

Marc-Andre ter Stegen admitted, “We expected Liverpool‘s energy to go down somehow and find ourselves, but it wasn’t easy.”

Later, Sergi Roberto also says: “They kept attacking and attacking, with the spirits in the clouds and us very low. I kept looking at the scoreboard, I didn’t believe what was happening.

“Leo was very screwed after Liverpool. As captain, making the speech at the beginning of the season that we would bring the Champions League to the whole fans. Most of all, he was very hurt and very sad.”
