Caf Confederation Cup: Yanga SC set for uphill task after home loss to Pyramids FC
The Tanzanian giants lost the first leg tie in Mwanza and will need a victory in the return leg to book their place in the group stage
Yanga SC are set for an uphill task in the Caf Confederation Cup return leg against Pyramids FC after a 2-1 loss at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Sunday’s first leg.
The former Tanzanian champions went down in the first half when Erick Traory struck two minutes before the break to hand the Egyptian side the opening goal.
Matters were complicated for the Wananchi team in the 63rd minute when Abdallah Saied doubled the visitors’ lead in Mwanza.
Captain Pappy Tshishimbi scored the lone goal for his side in the 88th minute after he pounced on a timid clearance by Ahmed Mansour.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo international sent a low drive into the bottom corner which an outstretched Ahmed Elshenawy could not reach.
Pyramids were the better side throughout and registered six shots on target and had 54% ball possession compared to Yanga’s five shots on target and 46% ball possession.
The Tanzanians now have to score at least two goals and win the second leg to book their place in the group stage of the competition.
The return leg will be played on November 3.
