After seeing nine goals scored in their last game, we think Spurs’ trip to the south coast this weekend is likely to be a more lowkey affair
Tottenham make the short trip south this weekend to face Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are hoping to bounce back from their midweek Champions League humiliation which saw them thrashed 7-2 at home by Bayern Munich, yet their away form is cause for concern.
Spurs have not won a league game on the road since 20th January with their subsequent nine matches bringing seven defeats and two draws.
Brighton for their part are out of form and struggling in front of goal, so they too will be desperate to get back on track with a win.
Latest odds
If Spurs’ away form is alarming then Brighton’s record in front of their own fans is equally poor with the Seagulls winless at home since 3rd March.
Sportsbet offer Graham Potter’s side at 3.75 to break their winless streak, with the draw available at 3.50.
Pochettino’s men can be backed at 1.91.
Brighton vs Tottenham Team News
The visitors are without Serge Aurier is suspended for the clash, while Giovanni Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon continue to be out injured.
Brighton are likely to be without defenders Shane Duffy and Bernardo, while midfielder Solomon March is also set to miss out.
Brighton vs Tottenham Preview
It has been a difficult couple of weeks for Spurs with disappointing results in the Champions League, Premier League and Carabao Cup for the squad to contend with.
In theory a trip to a struggling Brighton side should be one of the more straight-forward away games of the season, yet Spurs will be reeling from that huge midweek defeat and Saturday’s clash will require some serious mental resilience.
Pochettino will be looking for a reaction, but more importantly a victory to stop the negative run the side are on and it may well be a question of simply trying to grind out a result.
Tips and predictions
Brighton have scored just one goal in their last five league games and their lack of cutting edge in the final third could really cost them this season.
Spurs for their part are likely to be a little deflated so opposing a high-scoring game makes plenty of sense, esepcially when under 2.5 goals is offered at 2.03.
