Agent Hasan Cetinkaya has lifted the lid on Frenkie de Jong’s move from Ajax to Barcelona.
Cetinkaya explained that the Dutch midfielder only had eyes for Barcelona, despite it seeming as though Paris Saint-Germain were close to signing him.
“It became a tug-of-war, where PSG, Manchester City and Juventus did almost everything to get Frenkie,” Cetinkaya told Aftonbladet.
“But Barcelona had always been his first choice; his football was at stake, his DNA.”
Cetinkaya explains that negotiations with Barcelona were difficult, though, and that he was surprised by the reaction of the Catalans’ former general manager, Pep Segura.
“Barcelona‘s directors were so relieved [to have signed De Jong] that then general manager Pep Segura started crying as soon as the documents were written,” Cetinkaya stated.
“They had lots of pressure on them to close the deal.”
