Zoo FC 0-2 Wazito FC: Ndinya and Rupia goals fire the newly promoted club to first win
The newcomers have had to wait until the fourth match of the season to get their first victory after spending ambitiously in the transfer window
Wazito FC have finally grabbed their first win in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) after beating Zoo FC 2-0 at Kericho Green Stadium on Sunday.
Victor Ndinya and Elvis Rupia scored in the second half as Wazito did well to pick up the win while playing away.
Wazito wasted their first chance in the second minute when Mike Oduor failed to plant the ball into the net just inside the box after receiving a fine cross from Derrick Onyango. The former Sofapaka midfielder blasted wide under no pressure at all.
Zoo saw their opening chance going to waste in the fifth minute as Derrick Anami’s shot went over the bar from close range.
Steve Njunge ensured the hosts were not getting their first goal in the 21st minute as he stretched to the right and parried away a shot from Bernard Odhiambo. The resultant corner bore no fruits for Zoo.
Ndinya scored the first goal of the match after Onyango managed to beat Akiya Stanlaus on the right-wing and delivered the ball for him. Ndinya had the simplest of work as he slotted past Martin Elungat in the 47th minute.
Ndinya was unlucky as his effort hit the frame in the 63rd minute as the visitors’ search for a second goal intensified.
Elvis Rupia opened his goal account in the 88th minute as he managed to beat Elungat two minutes after he was introduced.
Wazito will face Mathare United in their next match while Zoo will visit Gor Mahia on October 5 and 6 respectively.
