82′ Valverde’s game is over. He’s replaced by James, who can relax knowing that Madrid have already got the job done.
80′ Avila gets his name in the referee’s book for a slightly reckless tackle on Militao.
78′ Odriozola wins a free kick down Madrid’s right flank after he’s fouled by Garcia. The Madrid full back hasn’t had a huge amount to do today.
76′ Osasuna have yet to have a shot on target in this match. They’ve looked totally neutered up front by Madrid’s defence.
74′ Osasuna look down and out now. Roncaglia concedes a corner. Vasquez’s delivery finds Jovic who nods over the centre of the box.
72′ That all came from a Casemiro free-kick deep in Madrid’s midfield. Madrid’s two young Brazilian left wingers have made the difference for them here.
72′ GOAL! 2-0 MADRID! Madrid have sealed the win now, and Rodrygo did it all by himself! The Brazilian races towards Osasuna’s box from the halfway line, jinks inside on his right foot and rolls the ball low under Martinez! The teenage Brazilian takes a bow. VAR takes a look but it’ll count this time!
71′ Vinicius goes off to applause from the Madrid fans – his goal may well prove to be the difference. Rodrygo replaces him.
69′ Estupinan has been in the wars today. He goes down after he gets into a tangle with Valverde. In the meantime, Osasuna will make their final change.
67′ Martinez tips the ball over from Kroos’ mid-range shot. Kroos’ corner is cleared. Following on from the corner, a rebounded cross lands to Valverde, who blasts wide of the left-hand post.
65′ Cardona, who’s been equally ineffective, also leaves the field. Avila’s on for him.
65′ Osasuna decide to change their strike pairing. First, Brandon off. Villar on.
64′ Areola rises high to claim the corner easily. However, he smarts and goes down briefly as he looks to have injured himself while landing. Osasuna will make two changes while he receives treatment.
64′ Estupinan wins a foul down the left after he’s brought down by Vazquez. Osasuna take it quickly and get a corner, their third of the game.
62′ What can Osasuna do with that let-off? They’ve showed precious little prospect of scoring so far. Ibanez gets a free-kick in his own half after he’s fouled by Casemiro.
60′ THE GOAL’S RULED OUT! The referee eventually signals for offside. On the replays, it looks like Jovic just strayed offside from Vazquez’s pass. Osasuna get a lifeline!
58′ GOAL! 2-0 MADRID! Jovic gets third time lucky! It’s a simple first time finish which the Serbian slots underneath Martinez from Vazquez’s through ball. Madrid should be home and dry now. Hang on – it’s being checked for offside…
57′ Nacho gets a deserved yellow card for holding back Moncayola as he looks to break forward. Seconds later, Kroos hits the deck but play is called back to Madrid’s chagrin.
54′ Estupinan is over-eager in bustling into the box, leaving Casemiro down on the turf. Madrid free-kick. Osasuna are pressing far higher up the pitch than they were in the first half.
52′ Merida runs onto a pass and fizzes the ball high and wide to the right of goal. Up the other end, Martinez makes a routine save from a lacklustre Kroos effort.
50′ Jovic blows a chance to make it 2-0 Madrid! Osasuna over-commit forward and Madrid counter 2 v 2. Vinicius lays off for Jovic who only has Martinez to beat, but somehow blasts his shot over the crossbar again! Will that come back to haunt Madrid?
49′ Osasuna are already looking more enterprising. Cardona looks to get on the end of a cross at the far post but Nacho just does enough to put him off.
47′ Ramos concedes another corner for Osasuna after Ibanez tries to get the ball in. Madrid deal with it without much difficulty.
46′ The teams are out for the second half – no changes at half-time. What will this half of football bring?
Zidane will be hoping Madrid’s recent generosity at the back is over. Madrid have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four LaLiga home games before this one, their longest streak since April 2015. Osasuna haven’t even had a shot yet – will they be able to get a goal? At the moment, it doesn’t look likely.
So far, so satisfactory for Madrid. It hasn’t been the most enthralling game, in truth, with Osasuna working hard to make life difficult for the hosts. Jovic missed a snap chance, but thanks to a moment of quality from the teenage talent Vinicius, Madrid go in with a half-time lead. No doubt they’ll be happy if the score ends this way.
45′ + 1′ HALF-TIME: REAL MADRID 1-0 OSASUNA
44′ Areola makes a decent stop at the end of the half. Cardona chases after a through ball but the keeper rushes out to snuff out the chance. There will be one minute added to this half.
42′ Madrid get their third corner of the game, which Osasuna clear. However, they make a hash of the free-kick! Vinicius races forward, beating Roncalgia down the right and crossing across the face of goal. Osasuna scramble the ball away before Jovic can tap in. That could easily have been 2-0.
41′ Lillo gets booked for losing a foot race with Nacho towards the corner flag and completely misreading the bounce of the ball, kicking straight through the Madrid full back. Madrid free-kick.
40′ Roncaglia spends some time down on the ground after he accidentally takes a knock from Vazquez while clearing the ball. He’ll be OK.
38′ Vinicius is on the hunt for another. The Brazilian tries to repeat his previous trick from outside the area but this time fires over the bar. Can’t fault him trying.
36′ The assist goes to Kroos, who nabbed the ball from Osasuna in midfield. Madrid have the lead from their first shot on target!
36′ GOAL! 1-0 MADRID! What a lovely goal by Vinicius! He’s barely been in the game so far. Vinicius picks up the ball on the edge of the box, takes one step onto his right foot and curls the ball past Martinez! The Brazilian looks ecstatic.
35′ Madrid keep looking for Vazquez who is giving Estupinan a hard time. This time the full back manages to get the ball away without need for support.
33′ Ibanez whips in an early cross for his two forwards but Areola is out early to claim it. Confident keeping from the Frenchman.
31′ Militao fires a fantastic ball to Vazquez who jinks in the box, with Madrid players outnumbering Estupinan. Odriozola arrives on the scene and looks to get a shot away but Martinez closes the angle and tidies up.
29′ Lillo punts the ball down the line for Brandon. Militao heads it out for a throw. Osasuna take the throw quickly and find Brandon darting into the box but Militao is there to block again.
28′ The possession count so far is 57% in Madrid’s favour. They’re on top but not entirely in control.
26′ Estupinan leaves the field temporarily for treatment after he’s victim to a rough challenge. Looks like he’ll be able to continue.
24′ Madrid get a free-kick in the centre of the park as Vinicius is hauled down. Kroos switches the play to Vazquez who beats Estupinan but can’t find a teammate with the cross. Kroos’ quickfollow-up is blocked and Vinicius’ cross back in is cleared away.
22′ Vazquez whips in another delivery for Madrid from the right. Lillo heads it away. A rogue Madrid throw lands near Roncaglia who punts it way upfield.
19′ Madrid are starting to look more menacing now. Kroos creates some space for himself and blasts the ball just wide from long range.
17′ Odriozola takes on the left side of Osasuna’s defence by himself, reaching the byline and fizzing a cross in. Navas completely hashes his clearance, forcing a reaction save from Martinez! The ball lands straight to Jovic, who blazes over from close range! What a let-off for Osasuna.
15′ Osasuna get a corner down their left conceded by Militao after Brandon lofts a pass forward.Madrid deal with Garcia’s delivery without any fuss. It’s a lively game but there’s not been much goalmouth action to speak of yet.
13′ Vinicius powers down the left for Madrid, looking for the run of Vazquez on the opposite flank. Fortunately for Osasuna his cross is way over. It all came from a slightly dodgy challenge in midfield by Nacho on Ibanez which the referee let go.
11′ Madrid win their first corner of the game down their left-hand side. It’s taken short and they succeed in winning another, which Osasuna also clear. Odriozola decides to pass all the way back to Areola, which the crowd doesn’t take too kindly.
10′ Militao gets an early yellow card for tripping Garcia when he turns the Madrid defender in the centre of the pitch.
7′ This game is pleasantly end-to-end early on. Osasuna are looking to get forward quickly when they get the ball, which bodes well for them.
5′ Madrid go on the attack as another exquisite cross-field pass finds Vazquez in space. The winger drills a low cross in looking for Jovic but it’s blocked by Lillo in the nick of time.
3′ Osasuna break through the middle and almost get a chance! Militao blocks a cross from the right of Madrid’s box. Ibanez gives away a free-kick as he tries to nip onto the rebound.
2′ Madrid start the match cautiously, passing the ball around between themselves at the back while Osasuna drop deep. Vazquez tries to latch onto a cross-field ball from Nacho but it bounces out for a throw.
1′ Real Madrid get this match underway!
The two sides are out on the Bernabeu pitch! Real Madrid is in their regal all-white home kit; Osasuna are wearing their usual red shirts and blue shorts.
You can understand Madrid’s confidence in resting their players. They’re unbeaten in their last eight games against Osasuna, last losing away to them in Pamplona in January 2011. They’ve also won their last nine LaLiga games against Osasuna at the Bernabeu, scoring an average of 3.4 goals each game. Will Madrid get the easy ride they clearly want, or will this time be different?
Zidane takes the opportunity to shuffle Madrid’s pack ahead of the Madrid derby in three days’ time, naming a young XI. Madrid make eight changes from their 1-0 win over Sevilla with Hazard, Rodriguez and Benzema all ready to go from the bench. Osasuna also rotate their squad, making seven changes from their 0-0 draw with Real Betis including a new strike pairing of Brandon and Cardona.

Madrid’s opponents in this game are the newly promoted Osasuna. Jagoba Arrasate’s side have only won once, but like Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, they have yet to lose a game. They’re actually enjoying their longest unbeaten run at the start of a top-flight season since 1981/82. Something looks like it’s going to have to give.
Real Madrid have had a mixed start to their LaLiga campaign. Zinedine Zidane’s men only kept their first clean sheet last time out and have only scored 10 goals in their first five games – a relatively meagre return, by their standards. However, they remain unbeaten this season and could go top if they win here.
