The first ever meeting between these two sides in the Champions League should be an open game and we are backing plenty of goals to be scored
Barcelona travel to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund in their opening game of Group F of the Champions League. Ernesto Valverde are likely to be without Lionel Messi who is yet to play this season and the Catalans’ recent away record in Europe is far from impressive. Dortmund however have been underwhelming in front of their own fans in the competition winning just two of their last eight home matches and this could be an open encounter on Wednesday.
Latest odds
The Blaugrana have won just four of their last 13 away matches in the Champions League and Sportsbet offer them at 2.25 to claim three points. Dortmund for their part can be backed at 3.00 with the draw at 3.60.
Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona Team News
Messi is set to miss out for the visitors although Barca are likely to welcome back Luis Suarez into the starting eleven. The Uruguayan made his comeback from injury at the weekend coming off the bench to score twice against Valencia. Fellow forward Ousmane Dembele is still out, while centre-back Samuel Umtiti is also missing. Dortmund are likely to be short of full-back Nico Schulz.
Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona Preview
Barcelona are yet to keep a clean sheet in La Liga this season and have conceded two goals in each of their last three matches. In last season’s group stage they conceded in all three of their away games, and up against a Dortmund side who have shown plenty of firepower domestically this term, Barca could struggle once more. Dortmund too however are unlikely to shut-out the Spanish champions with the Blaugrana scoring in all six of their group games last season. A high-scoring game could well be on the cards and while Barca are likely to dominate possession, Dortmund will feel that they are capable of hurting them on the counter-attack.
Tips and predictions
Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score is priced at 1.67 and looks a nailed on selection. For slightly higher odds, the price of 2.33 for over 3.5 goals should also appeal.
