Carabao Cup Betting: Manchester City favourites for more domestic glory

Pep Guardiola’s men recorded a clean sweep of major trophies in England last season and are market leaders to scoop the first silverware of this term

Manchester City are favourites to retain the Carabao Cup ahead of the first round of the tournament this week.

The trophy was the first of an unprecedented domestic treble by Pep Guardiola’s men last season and they are just 4/1 (5.0) with bet365 to win the competition for the third campaign in a row.

City have not tasted defeat in the Carabao Cup since October 2016 and such recent dominance may make it difficult for punters to look past them despite their short price.

Next in the betting market is Liverpool at 8/1 (9.0) with the Reds looking to lift the trophy for the ninth time in their history, although Jurgen Klopp has far from prioritised the tournament in recent years.

Since reaching the semi-finals two years ago, Liverpool have exited at the third round in each of the last two years, with their German manager making wholesale changes ahead of losses to Leicester and Chelsea in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Tottenham, who lost to Chelsea at the final four last season, are 10/1 (11.0) as Mauricio Pochettino looks to win his first trophy as a manager. Spurs also lost to the Blues in the final four years ago, going down 2-0.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are 10/1 (11.0) to win the Carabao Cup, a year after losing on penalties to Man City in the final. Frank Lampard won the trophy twice as a player with Chelsea and will be out to claim his first major trophy as manager.

Manchester United are also priced at 10/1 (11.0) to win the competition for the sixth time in their illustrious history, although it remains to be seen whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will target a cup run.

Out at 12/1 (13.0), Arsenal could prove a popular selection given their relative consistency this century, with the Gunners reaching at least the quarter-finals in 13 of the last 17 seasons – losing in the final three times during that span.

Outside of the top six, Wolves are 14/1 (15.0) shots to end a 40-year run without a major trophy, having impressed last season to finish seventh in the Premier League.

Everton can be backed at 16/1 (17.0) whilst Leicester are 25/1 (26.0), with Championship quartet West Brom, Derby, Fulham and Leeds all 66/1 (67.0).
