Nigeria start their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) campaign with a Group B clash against tournament debutants Burundi at the Alexandria Stadium on Saturday evening.
It’s a first Afcon appearance for the Super Eagles since their title triumph in South Africa in 2013. They topped Group E of the qualifiers after a sluggish start and are considered one of the favourites for a fourth continental crown.
Bet9ja tips them as favourites to win at odds of (1.38).
Les Hirondelles made it to their first ever Afcon, finishing second in their qualifying group behind Mali.
It’s a historic moment for the Central African nation and they’ll be looking to make a statement of intent, but will have it all to do as they are priced at huge odds of (10.00) with the same firm for a rousing victory.
A maiden stalemate between these two is offered at (4.35).
Oliver Niyungeko’s men might be minnows for this tie, but they are not afraid to take on any side and have racked up decent results which has brought them this far.
One interesting fact is that Burundi have scored in eight of their last nine matches and this includes against teams like Tunisia, Algeria, Gabon, Mali and Uganda, who are all ranked higher than them.
This means it might not be a walk in the park for Nigeria and having considered the above factor, Bet9ja quotes both teams scoring at mouth-watering odds of (2.72).
