Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen has turned down the chance to be Vincent Kompany‘s first signing as Anderlecht manager.
The 33-year-old is available on a free transfer next month after five injury-plagued years at the Nou Camp.
New player boss Kompany, former of Manchester City, wanted to make Belgium international Vermaelen his first signing at Anderlecht, says HLN.
He was also ready to make Vermaelen part of his coaching staff.
But Vermaelen is likely to continue his professional career with Olympiacos.
