KPL Wrap: Sublime Majak leads Brewers past Ingwe while KCB and Ulinzi Stars draw

Tusker defeated AFC Leopards 2-0 at Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday in the Kenyan Premier League’s penultimate round of matches.

David Majak and Boniface Muchiri were the heroes as the Brewers sealed the win over AFC Leopards in the first half. Muchiri has now scored 11 goals for Tusker while Majak’s tally stands at six although he joined the 2016 KPL champions in the last transfer window.

Majak scored the opener for Tusker in the 13th minute before helping Muchiri to double the lead for them in the 27th minute.

Boniface Muchiri also scored in the first round meeting although Tusker ended up losing that match 2-1.

19-year-old Majak could have earned a brace in the 23rd minute but his powerful header smashed the crossbar.

Matano replaced injured Timothy Otieno in the 69th minute and brought in Noah Wafula but Wafula also got injured, in the 90th minute and was replaced by Rwandan midfielder Amini Muzerwa.

AFC Leopards will end their 2018/19 season with a match against Western Stima while Tusker will finish the season’s business against Posta Rangers on May 29.

Meanwhile, at the same venue in an early kick-off, KCB and Ulinzi Stars drew 2-2.

The Bankers took the lead in the 12th minute after Bolton Omwenga floated in a corner that Chrispinus Onyango rose to meet and head home.

James Saruni had to be very alert at the half-hour mark when he backtracked and swept a goal-bound ball from George Omondi. Benjamin Nyangweso had to make a change in the 34th minute when Justin Onwonga was injured and Enosh Ochieng was introduced.

Ochieng just needed five minutes on the pitch to score his 17th league goal of the season when he slotted past Okoth in KCB’s goal. Some excellent play between him and Elvis Nandwa opened up the hosts’ backline and gave Ochieng enough space to score for the Soldiers.

Churchill Muloma gave Ulinzi Stars the lead in the 70th minute as his 25-yard cracker beat Okoth. Muloma capitalized on a poorly cleared ball by KCB to score the second for the visitors.

Onyango scored his second of the afternoon, an equalizing goal for KCB at the death.
