Departed Brisbane Roar star Eric Bautheac has labelled his second season with the club a ‘disaster’ with fellow A-League clubs now chasing his signature.
Bautheac scored seven goals and picked up six assists in an otherwise poor season for the Roar, who finished ninth and conceded a competition record number of goals.
The 31-year-old admitting his side’s defensive troubles spoiled what was an individually solid campaign.
“The problem is that our four defenders were injured at the beginning of the season,” Bautheac said in an interview with L’Équipe.
“It was a disaster. We took three, four or even five goals per game. Even if we scored, we always took one more.
“It was very frustrating for me.”
Having previously played his entire career in France, Bautheac compared the A-League to English football but stressed there was a lack of pressure in games.
“It’s a football that looks like the one played in England, different from the one we see in France, more physical,” he said.
“Teams want to score goals instead of not taking them. That’s nice.
“I want to get back to the European rhythm, the intensity of the training, I miss it a little bit, the atmosphere in the stadiums too.
“I like to play when there’s pressure. There was none there, really.”
While clearly missing playing in Europe, Bautheac hasn’t ruled out staying in Australia with Melbourne Victory previously linked to the Frenchman.
“I have not wanted to extend to Australia at this time, although I have received offers,” he said.
“I’ve known for two months that I won’t stay in Brisbane. But other bigger Australian clubs are on my list because I’m coming out of a big season.
“I am in contact with some interesting clubs.
“I want to say that I am open to anything. I have even received proposals from India.”
