Sporting KC’s Erik Hurtado undergoes knee surgery, out 2-3 months

Sporting Kansas City striker Erik Hurtado has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will be out for 2-3 months, the club announced Wednesday.

Hurtado, 28, has made three Concacaf Champions League appearances in his first season with SKC, including one start, as the club have advanced to the semifinals. He hasn’t made an MLS appearance with SKC yet.

Prior to joining SKC this winter, Hurtado spent the first six seasons of his career with the Vancouver Whitecaps. He made 105 appearances, scoring 12 goals and 10 assists in regular season play, while coming off the bench the majority of the time.

Behind Krisztian Nemeth on the center forward depth chart now sits 16-year-old Homegrown Tyler Freeman, though Daniel Salloi and others could fill in at No. 9 if need be.
