Rapids’ Diego Rubio named to Chile roster for friendlies vs. Mexico, US

Colorado Rapids striker Diego Rubio will join the Chilean national team for their US tour during this month’s international window, as La Roja play Mexico in San Diego on Friday before a match vs. the United States in Houston next Tuesday (8 pm ET | ESPN2, UniMás, UDN).

Rubio joins a star-studded squad that also includes FC Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, veteran defender Gary Medel and Pablo Hernandez, the Independiente midfielder who played for D.C. United in 2010.

Rubio, 25, is seeking his fifth senior international cap. After arriving in Colorado via an offseason trade with Sporting Kansas City, he scored his first goal of the 2019 campaign on Sunday in a match against his former team, preying upon an error by goalkeeper Tim Melia to help the Rapids earn a 1-1 draw at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
